Although there are various types of kid's pirate birthday cakes, pirate boats, pirate flags and pirates from head to toe, this pirate birthday cake is only of the face of a pirate. This is the easiest of all the kid's pirate birthday cakes to make and decorate. As far as the baking is concerned all you need is one round cake and one square or oblong cake of any flavor and of any height.

To decorate this pirate birthday cake you will need:Icing/frosting

You can use your favorite recipe but my favorite white icing recipe is 250ml whipping cream, 1 cup of milk and 1 packet of instant vanilla pudding powder. When mixed all together the cake cream is whitish yellow and delicious. Whichever frosting recipe you use make the icing white or brown as it needs to act as the skin of the pirate.

You will also need to color half of the icing a different color (for the pirate hat)so you can perhaps make a chocolate icing (200gm dark chocolate melted together with 250ml whipping cream) or add a few drops of food coloring to half the quantity of the basic white frosting.

Candy:Half moon biscuit

Red and black liquorice sticks

Chocolate flake (if they don't sell this Cadbury chocolate in your country use a regular milk chocolate bar and crumble it)

Liquorice Allsorts or other round shaped candy (this is for the nose, earring and eye)

How to decorate a Pirate Head Kid's Birthday Cake:The round cake is left uncut and is used as the pirate's face, the oblong cake needs to be cut into the shape of a pirate hat. To do this start by cutting the oblong cake so that it fits onto the curve of the round (face) cake. Then cut the upper part of the pirate "hat". Start by cutting off the two upper corners in a curve and from there sculpture the hat by copying a picture of a pirate's hat.

Ice the face of the pirate in brown or white frosting and then use the colored icing for the pirate's hat.

Use the above photo and lay the red liquorice stick in a curve as the pirate's mouth and the black liquorice stick as a scare on the pirate's cheek. Use smaller bits of liquorice across the scar as stitches. Also use the black liquorice stick as the "string" which holds the pirate's patch on. The half moon cookie is used as the pirate's eye patch. If you don't have a cookie in this shape then just cut a round cookie in half.

Place a round piece of candy where the pirate's earring should be and another as the pirate's visible eye.

Use the crumbled chocolate as hair and beard stubble.

Use a darker icing or melted chocolate to make the pirate skull and cross bones on the pirate's hat and small pieces of liquorice for the pirate skull and cross bones eyes and mouth.

This is really the easiest kid's pirate birthday cake to make and decorate at home.

Other kid's birthday cakes which are easy to decorate include a swimming pool cake, and a train cake. you can also try one of these fun birthday cake decorating ideas.
