I originally put these vegetables into a soup as a healthy way to clean out my body. It all started when I got the smallest imaginable cut on my finger, right at the cuticle. I didn’t even realize I had it and I went about my business that day. Playing with the dog, messing around underneath the car and generally just getting my hands dirty. This cut was so small it was practically invisible. I of course washed my hands when I got home, but I didn’t use anything like Neosporin. The next day when I woke up I noticed the area was slightly red and my knuckle hurt in an odd way. By mid afternoon I felt terrible. I had a fever of 103 and my hand really hurt. The small red area now encompassed my entire finger and part of my hand. The scariest thing was a thin red line moving up my hand to just above my wrist. I never had blood poisoning before, but I knew this wasn’t right or good in any way.
The next thing I realize is I’m in the emergency room and the nurse is giving me shots of penicillin and tetanus. After that it was an IV with more penicillin. By this time the red line was slowly progressing from my wrist up my arm and they had to get this infection stopped now, after that it was two more weeks of antibiotics.
So everything is fine and healing and then I get odd pains and swelling in my arm, the doctor tells me that it is probably a reaction to all of the antibiotics, the infection and possibly the tetanus shot. I decided I needed to clean my body out of all of the medications and blood infection. And since antibiotics are very bad on the digestive system I had to help it also. What I needed were vegetables to clean and help my liver, kidneys, blood and digestive system.
Onions purify the blood. Daikon, also known as a Japanese radish helps the liver and digestive system function properly. Celery improves the detoxification of the body and gets rid of excess mucus in the body, which can also accumulate in the digestive tract and hinder it. Barley (not pearled barley) is also very good for the liver and the skin.
I put those vegetables into a soup, it can be a vegan soup and it is low sodium as well. Of course you can add all kinds of vegetables and noodles to the soup, red potatoes to make it thicker. You can use udon noodles or orzo instead of barley. This is a very healing soup.
With this type of soup you can play around with it until you find the right combinations of vegetables and seasonings.

Healthy and cheap lentil stew recipe

It is large and white. Much larger than the red radish you might be used to. It looks like a huge white carrot. Sometimes the green tops or on and other times they have been cut off. It is about 50/50 if you can find them in a regular grocery store. The main store I use is the Kroger/King Soopers/ City Market. If you dont see it you should ask them if they have it or can get it for you.
Oh thanks a lot! I will be looking out for this kind of veggie... I don't get to Kroger much.. we have a Publix.. I might find it there. You have been very helpful. Thanks!
You might want to try some daikon first before putting it into a big pot of soup. Sometimes I use parnips when I cant find the diakon, but parsnips dont do the same things. If you have any type of health food grocer, they should be able to get daikon. Stores like Sunflower Markets (in the western US), or Whole Foods, Vitamin Cottage or possibly an Asian grocery market.
I live in Georgia. I'll just have to look for it. Thanks. If I find it I will try it. Thanks.

Daikon? I wonder if you can buy that at a regular grocery store? I've never heard of it. I'd love to make some veggie soup like that to eat maybe 2 or 3 times a week.
